The web site for Goochland County Public Schools fulfills the need for communication among stakeholders in the education of Goochland County's youth. We publish our content in-house, providing teachers Web space for instructional purposes, including blogging and podcasting.
We currently use three so-called "Web 2.0" trends in serving the needs of our community: podcasts, wikis, and blogs. Some call this the "Read/Write Web" and it is putting the power of collaboration and publishing in the hands of everyone who uses the Web.
Some folks ask us: how do you do that? This section is for you.
Our webpages are coded with Web Standards, including ECMAScript, XHTML, and CSS. This site also uses server-side includes and PHP. The Website's pages were designed by John Hendron using BBEdit, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. The content-management system Expression Engine is used as well to manage the website, mailing lists, and school web properties.
This Web server is powered by Mac OS X Leopard and Apache. We also use the WordPress-mu weblog engine for our teacher blogs and podcasts.
The search function found on our homepage is not intended for generalized Internet searching, but will examine only pages found at Goochland County Public Schools’ website. We have used the queries previously left by visitors to better our site design. Search is provided by Google using their webmaster and analytics tools.
