Goochland Elementary and the Goochland County Schools’ Specialty Center are located in central Goochland County, Virginia. GES is accredited by the Virginia Department of Education and SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. We educate students in preschool through grade 5.

Goochland County Public Schools offers several preschool programs located at the Goochland Elementary Annex.  All programs are taught by highly qualified teachers and provide a preschool experience that prepares students for entrance into the elementary school.  All programs generally follow the school year calendar but hours vary between programs. Schedules for the preschool classes vary slightly between classes but generally include breakfast or morning snack time, lunch, afternoon snack time, circle, music, and story times, large and small group times, outdoor play, centers, and rest time.

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Preschool program

Children ages 2-5 years of age found eligible for special services may participate in the preschool program at the GES Annex.  Placement and classes vary from year-to year based on the ages and needs of the children.  The children are provided a high quality preschool experience with specialized instruction and related services at the Annex.  Speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, vision and hearing services are available for children in the preschool program eligible to receive these services.  No tuition is charged for children eligible for the ECSE program and transportation is available. The preschool program currently operates five days a week for 4.5 hours a day-typically 9:00-1:30.  The staff to child ratio varies based on each child’s classroom placement.  The preschool day generally includes a time for morning snack or breakfast, circle, centers, story, lunch, outside play, and music. Goochland Head Start

Goochland Head Start program is housed at the GES Annex but operated by HOPE, Inc.  This program accepts eligible children ages 3 or 4 years old.  Entrance to this program is often based on income level but children qualify under other criteria as well.  No tuition is charged for this program and currently transportation is not available.  More information is available through Carolyn Early at (434) 315-8990 or Tabitha Hubbard at (804) 492-5040.
