2009 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence
Congratulations to the faculty, students, and staff at GES! On January 15, 2009, Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced that 162 Virginia public schools earned the 2009 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence. The award is the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance incentive program created by the Board of Education to "advance competence to excellence" to encourage advanced learning and achievement in the Commonwealth. To qualify for the Governor's Award, schools must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieve Governor Kaine's goals. Each school earning a Governor's Award for Educational Excellence will receive a display banner and a signed resolution of commendation from Governor Kaine. WAY TO GO!

GCPS Spelling Bee
The GCPS annual Spelling Bee was held last night at the Goochland High School Auditorium. Students from each of the elementary schools and from the middle school participated. Middle school student Abby A. (former GES/SC student) came in first place with the word adamant, after an amazing 15 rounds!
Did you know that adamant means (1) an imaginary stone of great hardness (2) an unbreakable or extremely hard substance?
Second place went to fifth grade student, Davis P. of GES/SC! Congratulations Davis!! We are proud to call you a GES/SC LION!!
