Fifth grade students will take the multiple choice portion of the Writing SOL on Tuesday, March 3. The writing prompt will be administered on Wednesday March 4. It is imperative that your child arrive at school on time and be prepared for the testing. Please ensure that your child has a good night’s sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast. Thanks for your efforts in making this testing experience a positive one for your child.

On March 5th, GES/SC will have its annual Family Reading Night. Plan to come out and enjoy an evening of fun, food, books, and of course READING.

We will begin the evening at 5:30 with dinner and Kick Off to the annual Spring Book Fair. Dinner must be pre-ordered! Order forms were sent home with students last week. Dinner is being provided by Goochland’s very own Coach’s Corner. Each dinner includes a hotdog, chips, drink, and cookie at a cost of $3.50! The classroom with the most participation will win an ice cream party!! Please send in order forms as soon as possible!! 

After dinner and Book Fair, a presentation will be held in the cafeteria, and then we will have reading activities and demonstrations presented in various classrooms throughout the school.

Lastly, will be a drawing for two great book baskets, stuffed full of the latest and greatest in children’s literature! *You must be present to win a basket.*

Please join us to gather inspiring ideas to promote reading at home; you are your child’s first and most important teacher, let us help you start a family reading plan! Please consider joining us in making this evening a success!

On Thursday, Feb 19, we will have assemblies taking place to honor those students who achieved honor roll status for the entire first semester. The assembly for grades 2 and 3 will begin at 9:00 a.m.  The assembly for students in grades 4 and 5 will begin at 10:00 a.m. Students who were classroom spelling bee champs will also be honored. 

Each year GES/SC has a Valentine’s Day Dance for the upper grades, 3rd - 5th. This year it will be held on Friday, February 13, from 7:00 - 8:30pm. The cost is $2.00 per student. Please send NO money to school, as students are expected to pay at the door. The PTA is asking for donations of snacks and treats. Third graders are asked to bring chocolate goodies, fourth graders are asked to bring healthy treats, and fifth graders are asked to bring frosted treats. If you can bring treats, let your homeroom teacher know by Wednesday, February 11th.
Please remember to dress appropriately. . .and most importantly HAVE FUN!
