The Folks from VASS could not attend our homecoming pep rally to distribute the $100 checks that students earned for receiving qualifying scores on their Math, Science, and English AP exams last spring. So… when we received the checks today, we began distributing them to our students. We will put the checks in the mail for students who graduated last year. We are very proud of the success of our students who participated in AP exams last year. GHS had 104 qualifying scores of 3, 4, or 5 on AP exams. We appreciate the support of our partner, VASS who worked with us in our efforts and provided training for our teachers. We will announce our total incentives at the academic awards assembly on October 28th at 10am.
Homecoming Week begins on Monday, the 10th. Dress up days are as follows:
Monday is College Day
Tuesday is Celebrity Day
Wednesday is Super Hero Day
Thursday is Opposite Day
Friday is School Spirit Day
Along with our Spirit Dress Up Days, we look forward to THREE home volleyball games next week- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with Thursday being Senior Night as our last home game of the season.
Spirit Night will be Tuesday. Included in the festivities is a chili cook-off, Band performance, Cheerleader performance, the Powder Puff Football game between the Senior girls and the Junior girls. This has become a wonderful community event and a fun evening for the family. Admission is free. You can purchase a chili tasting kit (bowl & spoon) for $3 and eat your fill, then vote for your favorite chili.
Wednesday, our seniors will take a trip to the go cart track for team building activities while the underclassmen all take Explore or PSAT tests. Only 3rd and 4th blocks will meet on Wednesday.
Friday we will have a Pep Rally that will recognize the hard work of our AP students from last year and, of course, honor our sports teams and get ready for the football game. The BIG game begins 30 minutes early, at 7pm, with something for everyone. The Band will play, the cheer leaders will cheer, the community will come out, the homecoming court will be recognized, and the king and queen will be crowned at halftime. This is a fantastic community event, so plan to attend. Tickets are only $5.
The end of the 1st marking period is the following week on the 21st. Make sure that you get everything caught up before the 21st.. Back-to-school / parent conference day is October 26th from 12 to 7. Plan to attend and talk with your child’s teachers. You can schedule appointments if that makes it easier for you.
