DR. FRANK C. MCCUE, III SCHOLARSHIP - The Dr. Frank C. McCue, III Scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Fank McCue, III, an orthopedic surgeon and team physician at the University of Virginia. The VHSCA will award two scholarships annually in the amount of $500 - $1000 to two graduates of a Virginia accredited high school(s). The first scholarship will be awarded to a student that will enter into the field of sports medicine, athletic training, or sports physical therapy. The second scholarship will be awarded to a student that wishes to go into one of the above careers or into the field of coaching. ROGERS COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP - In order to be eligible for the Rogers Community Volunteer Scholarship Program, you must be attending school in a full-time basis during the fall of 2013 and be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at any level. Additionally, you must have contributed a minimum of 10 hours of non-paid, volunteer service within your community during the last 12 months and have maintained a Grade Point Average of 2.5 or greater. FARMHOUSE 2013 SCHOLARSHIP - The scholarship will provide financial assistance for up to three students hoping to attend a four year university in the Fall of 2013. Individual applicants must be a full-time student enrolled in or accepted to a four-year university for the Fall 2013 semester. Selection will be based on scholastic ability, leadership qualities, educational goals, and financial need. Individual recipients of scholarships need to reapply for scholarships need to apply for scholarship consideration in ensuing years. WTS ADVANCING WOMEN IN TRANSPORTATION - PATSY G. NAPIER FUTURE TRANSPORTATION LEADER SCHOLARSHIP - WTS fosters the development of women in transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding the Patricia G. Napier Future Transportation Leader Scholarship to graduating High School Senior women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field. The scholarship honors Patricia G. Napier, Founding President of the Central Virginia Chapter of WTS. Patsy worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 37 years and then continued her career by working in the private sector where she is currently a Senior Technical Advisor for McCormick Taylor, Inc. She has always felt that in order for young women to achieve their highest potential in the field of transportation they must have available to them the opportunity of higher education. The Patricia G. Napier Future Transportation Leader Scholarship is in the amount of $500. The minimum criteria selection are as follows: open to high school senior girls; GPA of 3.0 or higher; currently enrolled in a high school studying math, science, and technology; and considering a career in a transportation-related field. WTS FOUNDATION ADVANCING WOMEN IN TRANSPORTATION - COMMUNITY COLLEGE/TECHNICAL/TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP - WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding the Community, Technical or Trade College Scholarships to women pursuing Transportation related study at community and trade colleges. This scholarship is intended for students pursuing an Associate or technical degree in Transportation related studies. The Community College/Trade Scholarship is in the amount $1,000. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows: open to women; GPA of 3.0 or higher; and currently enrolled in a degree program in a transportation-related field. WTS FOUNDATION ADVANCING WOMEN IN TRANSPORTATION - TRANSPORTATION YOU HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP - WTS fosters the development of women and girls in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals and students to undertake careers in the area of transportation. One way it does this is by awarding the Transportation YOU Scholarships to girls pursuing high school studies in science, technology, engineering and math. Transportation YOU is a hands-on, interactive, mentoring program that offers young girls ages 13-18 an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. Through the program and this scholarship program, WTS chapters work to make a difference in the lives of young girls by offering programs and activities that will spark their interest in all modes of transportation and encourage them to take courses in math, science, and technology, which are the stepping stones to exciting careers that can change the face of the transportation industry. The Transportation You High School Scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows: open to high school senior girls; GPA of 3.0 or higher; currently enrolled in a high school studying math, science, and technology; and considering a career in a transportation-related field. QUATTLEBAUM-GRIFFITH SCHOLARSHIP - The Quattlebaum-Griffith Scholarship goes to two outstanding students and covers tuition, room, board, and fees for up to four years. Students typically considered for the Quattlebaum-Griffith Scholarship maintain a high school GPA of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale while taking challenging curriculum, score a minimum of 1300 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT, and demonstrate strong leadership skills and honorable character. AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP - The AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report provides $670,000 in annual scholarships to young people throughout the nation. APPLY EARLY: only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted. Winners on the State and National Levels. State Winners - Fifty-two winners - one from each state, the District of Colombia and Puerto Rico - are selected by their nonprofit partner, Scholarship America, to receive one-time scholarship awards to $10,000 each. National Winners - From the pool of 52 state winners, ten are selected as national winners and earn an additional one-time scholarship of $15,000. This brings the top AXA Achievers total scholarship awards to $25,000 each. Their scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. US JCI SENATE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - The Virginia Junior Chamber International Senate (VAJCI Senate) is proud to partner with the USJCI Senate Foundation to continue to offer the future leaders of America an opportunity to earn scholarship money for the pursuit of higher education. The USJCI Foundation offers $1000 scholarships each year to outstanding high school seniors who intend to continue their education. CARRINGTON DENTAL CENTRE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - $500 - 1 Award. To be eligible for the Carrington Dental Centre Scholarship a student must: 1) Be between the ages of 16-22; 2) Answer the Essay Question on the sponsors website prior to the deadline; 3) Have a parent/guardian submit the recommendation letter prior to the deadline; and 4) Be enrolled in a college, university, trades, or technical school by no later than the Fall of 2013. HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND - The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the largest scholarship-granting organization in the nation. HSF provides financial assistance to outstanding Hispanic students in higher education throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The student represent every region of the country and attend hundreds of institutions of higher education throughout America. RMHC U.S. SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 - 100 Awards. TEMPLETON PRESS SCHOLARSHIP - Templeton Press is sponsoring an essay contest that is open ti any high school senior who intends to enroll at an institution of higher learning by fall of 2013. Contestants will be judged solely on the quality of their ideas and their ability to express themselves. The contest carries prizes ranging from $1,000 up to $5,000. UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA - UNIVERSITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - This scholarship program is designed to attract exceptional in-state students to U.Va. They are looking for students who will add to the diversity of the University community. They hope this award, covering full tuition for four years, will make it easier for these students to attend U.Va. All in-state applicants will automatically be considered for this award. The most competitive applicants will demonstrate through Part II of the application that they have special talents, unique personal characteristics, and/or pressing needs which will assist them with their objective to recruit and retain a diverse student body. Academic merit, leadership, and citizenship are primary considerations. A student must also satisfy at least two of the following conditions: have a history of overcoming disadvantage; be a first generation college student; be a member of an underrepresented minority or ethnic group; be a member of a low-income family; reside in a rural or inner-city location; and/or have been raised in a single parent household. WALTER N. RIDLEY SCHOLARSHIP - The Black Alumni Association sponsors several scholarships designed to support African American students coming to the University of Virginia. These scholarships range from $2500-$10,000 are awarded to students annually. Students typically have excelled academically in school, usually are in the top 15% if their class, and have special talents and/or leadership qualities. The largest Ridley Scholarship ($10,000) is for Virginians only and these applicants are selected through their admission applications. This program works with high achieving low income students by providing academic and financial support to college. OLIVER LINDWOOD PERRY SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is for a student attending the University of Virginia who demonstrate a history of service with Native American communities. Students who have been admitted to the University of Virginia in order to be considered must submit at least one letter of reference from a Native American tribal leader and complete an application. Financial need may be considered in selecting scholarships recipients, but will be a secondary factor only. Once a given student is awarded the scholarship, the scholarship may be renewed for up to a total of four years so long as the recipient remains in good academic standing. PAMPLIN SCHOLARSHIP - The Pamplin Leader Award is a one-year merit-based $1,000 Virginia Tech tuition scholarship presented annually to one qualified student from each public high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia. To be eligible, a student must have a 3.8 overall GPA and be ranked in the top ten percent of his/her class. VMI THE INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - To be considered for the Institute Scholarship Program and in order to schedule an interview the following materials must be received by the VMI Admissions Office. A complete application for admission to VMI; A complete Scholarship Application form; A resume' (See question #11 on application) and Two short essays (See question #12 on application) Candidates are advised to complete the scholarship application package and have their materials submitted as early as possible. THE VIRGINIA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN FIRE SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION (AFSA) SCHOLARSHIP - They are sponsoring a scholarship essay contest for Virginia high school seniors only. Students could receive Virginia prizes of $1500 for 1st place plus $1000 from ASFA National, $750 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place. The requirement is to write a 700 to 1000 word essay on the following subject: Write a creative, interesting and convincing essay regarding the value and importance of automatic sprinklers in schools. Requirements for submission are a completed application form and the essay. All essays must have a bibliography. The essays will be judged on accuracy, content & creativity, and spelling/grammar/punctuation. The AFSA scholarship awards are not based on financial need. AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP - The AXA Achievement Community Scholarship Program brings advice and access to higher education into every community in which AXA has a presence. Every AXA Advisors' branch office nationwide distributes up to twelve $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors who live and attend high school in their area. APPLY EARLY: only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted. Selection of winners, known as AXA Achievers, is made by their nonprofit partner. Scholarship America. THE GLORIA WILLE BELL AND CARLOS R. BELL SCHOLARSHIP - The scholarship support is based on academic accomplishments rather than financial need. The scholarship program will provide up to $80,000 over four years of undergraduate study to students selected from the Commonwealth of Virginia, with a preference given to residents of the Gloucester, Virginia area. Interested students may be eligible for a paid overnight trip to visit the campus. The trip will include airfare for the student and one parent/guardian and hotel room for one night. The scholarship program is available online and all applications, including essays, will be submitted online. STELLARONE VBA BANK DAY SCHOLARSHIP - The third Tuesday in March was declared Bank Day in Virginia by the Virginia General Assembly in 1991. On this day, Virginia high school seniors spend a day in banks across the Commonwealth learning about bankers and their daily duties. The purpose of this experience is for the students to learn about banking, financial services, and the vital role banks play in their communities. From their experience, the students are required to write an essay on the topic, "How Banking Benefits My Community," and seven scholarships (six regional scholarships of $2,000 and one statewide of $6,000) will be awarded by the VBA on the basis of the essays. The student must meet the following criteria for participation: (1) be a high school senior, (2) have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and (3) have a teacher recommendation. Interested students must complete a Bank Day Student Interest Form. Spaces will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Forms are available in the Guidance department.

LEE JACKSON EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - The Virgina Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce the Charlottesville Lee-Jackson Educational Foundation Scholarship Program. The objective of the program is to acquaint young people with the historical legacy of two of Virginia's most outstanding military figures, General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. The Foundation awards one $10,000, eight $2,000, and nine $1,000 scholarships to public, private, and home-schooled students throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. WILLARD G. PLENTL AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP - The Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship, in the amount if $1,000, will be awarded to a Virginia High School senior who is planning an aviation career in a non-engineering area. A certification of acceptance into a non-engineering, aviation-related postsecondary education program is required. Examples of non-engineering aviation careers include (but are not limited to) pilots, aviation maintenance technicians, aviation managers, etc. Scholarship applicants must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.5. 2013 MILDRED RAMOS SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is sponsored by the Virginia Mayflower Society. The applicant must be a high school senior, a college undergraduate student, or a university graduate student under the age of 26 enrolled in an accredited educational institution or home-schooled equivalent. THE AMERICAN LEGION HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program "A Constitutional Speech Contest" is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship. Scholarship awards are presented to the three finalists in the final round of the national contest as follows: 1st place - $18,000; 2nd - $16,000; 3rd - $14,000. Each department (state) winner who is certified into and participates in the first round of the national contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship. GOOCHLAND COUNTY LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - The Goochland County Lions Club is a local civic club that is part of the Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world. Their primary support is for sight and hearing related services, but the club also contributes to many local organizations and causes as well, such as the Goochland Christmas Mother, GHS All Night Graduation Party,Boys State and Girls State for local high school students, the Cancer Society's Relay for Life Campaign, assistance for eyeglass examinations and glasses for needy individuals. As part of this commitment, the members of Westhampton Lodge No. 302 have established a Scholarship Fund to help finance the education of selected college-bound students. VIRGINIA SHERIFF'S INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP - Two types of scholarships will be awarded, one to full-time students and one to part-time students. All the scholarship awards to students will be consistent, i.e. all check amounts will be the same, depending on the type. Only majors in the criminal justice field will qualify for a scholarship. THE COMEBACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP - An award that recognizes the male and female high school athletes who best exemplify the 'comeback spirit' by distinguishing themselves in competition after rehabilitating a serious injury. (1) Open to student-athletes in their senior year of high school who attend a public or private high school in the cities of Richmond, Petersburg or Colonial Heights, and he counties of Hopewell, Amelia, Brunswick, Charles City, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Greensville, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince George or Sussex. (2) Candidates must have suffered an injury serious enough to interrupt athletic participation (team practices, games or individual workouts) for a minimum of two months. This injury should not have occurred earlier than August 1 of their freshman year. (3) Athletes must compete and distinguish themselves in at least one varsity high school sport following their injury. The most important criterion in judging will be whether the athlete reaches his or her fullest athletic potential, post-injury. Receiving all-star recognition at the district, regional or state level is not a prerequisite to winning this award, although such honors will be considered. GAMMA TAU SCHOLARSHIP FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS - Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. The Goochland Chapter of ALPHA DELTA KAPPA was established in 2012. The scholarship is available to Goochland High School Seniors only. The scholarship is awarded, to a qualified Senior at GHS preparing for a career in education. It is funded by the donations of members of Gamma Tau. It is for one semester and will be awarded, so long as the recipient remains in good academic standing, directly to the college. The purpose of this scholarship shall be to encourage commitment to educational excellence, and to give financial assistance to a Senior at GHS, interested in the study of education and supporting disciplines. JIMMY BRYAN SCHOLARSHIP - The intent of the Scholarship is to provide two scholarships for $500-$1000 to young athletes who are graduating from a Virgina High School League member school and who intend to teach and coach in Virginia. The recipients must not receive any financial assistance through his athletic participation in college. To be eligible for the scholarship, one must: be a graduate of a Virginia High School League member school; attend a college or university within the State of Virginia; earn six (6) Varsity letters in athletics; plan to teach and coach in a Virginia High School League member school (no penalty if one does not); not receive any financial assistance in college as a direct result athletic participation. 2013 CITE TRADITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - The Consortium of Information and Telecommunications Exceutives, Inc. (CITE®) will award scholarships to deserving African-American students who meet the qualification criteria. Applicant must be an African-American and a United States citizen. Applicant must be a high school senior at the time the application is submitted. Applicant must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better based on a 4.0 and a 4.0 on a 5.0 maximum scale at the time of the application. Applicant must be accepted by accredited college/university as a full-time student. Application is open to all majors. Applicant must provide proof of enrollment before actual allocation of the awarded funds. Total Family Income of Applicant must be $75,000 per year or less. Application can be picked up in Guidance.

GHS NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY "RONI ECIMOVIC" SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is named in memory of Roni Ecimovic, a former GHS student. She was a gifted artist who is fondly remembered by Mrs. Bachmann, Mrs. Berry, and Mrs. Long for her talent in art, ceramics, digital graphics, and photography classes. Roni was very hard working, thoughtful, and a quiet listener. She was liked by many students because she had an easy way of getting along with others. She loved horses and pets; rescued many.
