GMS students. Please bring your parents to the November 6 PTA meeting at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium. The guest speaker is local author Connie Lapallo. Ms. Lapallo wrote the book called DARK ENOUGH TO SEE THE STARS UNDER A JAMESTOWN SKY. Her book tells the true story of her ancestors, women who sailed over to help settle Jamestown hundreds of years ago. These ladies survived a hurricane at sea, and almost starved over the winter at Jamestown. You will have an opportunity to hear the author speak about how and why she wrote the book, and about the sequel. Some English teachers and social studies teachers are offering extra credit if you bring a signed program or write an article. Ask your teacher if he or she is giving extra credit.

Mrs. Burdette is giving the homeroom with the highest attendance at the Connie Lapallo PTA meeting at 6 p.m. a pizza party the next day. 

Make-up picture day is scheduled on November 13. If you, or any of your students, need to have school photos retaken or if you missed the first date, please come to the office for a new form. The form and appropriate money is to be given to the PHOTOGRAPHER at the time photos are taken. 

On Monday, November 3, 2008 GMS will hold a school-wide mock Presidential election as well as a real election for our SCA officers for this school year.

You will be seeing these students campaigning around the school in the coming week. Students will all cast their vote for each of these positions. Enjoy the campaigning.
Be ready to cast your vote on November 3rd and all adults PLEASE remember to go to the polls and vote (for real) on Tuesday, November 4th!!!

Teachers and Students: The PTA Reflections contest deadline is Nov. 7, just a week or so away.  If you need a refresher on the rules or to print out an entry form, you may visit Mrs. Ray’s blog or go to www.vapta.org (that’s W-W-W Virginia P T A dot Org).  There are also paper copies of the entry form in the front offfice and in the LMC.
The theme of this year’s contest is WOW!  Many of you have been working hard to prepare entries for this contest.  We wish you luck in putting Goochland Middle School on the Reflections map this year.

The GMS Morning Announcements are going to be posted as a podcast each morning.  Check under the link for Student Voices on the left side of the GMS homepage or at the very bottom of the “teacher” page for a link to “Student Voices”.  For now we only have the morning announcements, but we plan to expand this blog and include materials written by different students, so check it often. 

The GMS PTA Presents The GMS Variety Show, Friday, February 20, 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.  The Deadline to turn in your form for auditions is Friday, November 14.

AUDITIONS:  Wednesday, January 21st & Thursday, January 22nd
3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the GHS Auditorium

Please bring necessary props (accompaniment sound track, instrument, etc.) to the audition.  Vocal performers are required to have an accompaniment sound track.  Sound tracks can be acquired at http://www.acekaraoke.com or 1-888-893-7464.  Students enrolled at GMS are allowed to participate in the GMS Talent Show.  Students need to specify if persons other than GMS students will be part of the act, for approval by GMS.  Act should be no longer than 3 minutes.

Please start preparing/practicing for the audition, now and during winter break, as the auditions are right after MP2 exams.  We cannot accept all acts for the show due to time constraints.  Therefore, the student needs to be prepared and the act needs to be “performance ready” for the audition.

The games will be played at Goochland Middle School.  Admission is $3.00 for everyone over 6 years.  When the girls and boys are both playing, the girl’s game will be played first.

A 45-minute abbreviated version of the original production of The Nutcracker Suite is coming to Goochland High School Auditorium on Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m. Perfect for younger audiences.  All tickets are $7.00.  For more information contact Linda Jasper at GMS, 556-5320.

GMS girls and boys open gym, Wednesdays, beginning October 15, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m in the GMS gymnasium with Coach Wilbur Athey.

1. Students MUST have a current sports physical on file in the office.
2. Enter and exit through the back of the gym.
3. Wear tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirts and bring water bottles.
