Thanks to everyone that participated in the Family Reading Night. There was food, activities and character dress-up contest. It was a fun time for all. Check out the action!
Thanks to all who helped make the Book Fair a success. Parent volunteers that manned the Book Fair, English teachers who brought their classes to the Book Fair and last but not least - students, staff, teachers and parents that made the purchases. We hope you enjoy your new reading materials.
A note from Mr. Sykes:
Congratulations to the GMS Advanced band (7th and 8th combined) for receiving first place and earning the rating of superior in this weekend’s competition. I couldn’t have asked for them to play any better. I am so proud of all that they have accomplished this year. They have been judged by six different judges through the year and all judges have rated them superior. This has been an outstanding year for ALL of the band kids. If you see a band kid please congratulate them. They have worked so hard this year and are very deserving of all that they have achieved.
The choir, under the fine direction of Susan Duty, also did a fantastic job this weekend. I will let her fill you in on how they did. This is the first time that the entire music program has travelled together for our spring trip. We had a blast!!
Oh yeah and we didn’t leave anyone at the park. This is always a good thing!!
GO GMS MUSIC!!!!
A note from Mrs. Duty:
I would like to reiterate what Jay said about the GMS band and GMS Music. We had a great day on Saturday at Busch Gardens participating in the Showcase Music Festival.
For the first time EVER, GMS chorus went to festival and we not only won 1st place in our division of Mixed Concert Choir for A Middle School Chorus, but also won over all, the highest rating (score) for Mixed Choirs from A, AA, AAA Middle School and High School choirs who participated in this competition. My students were so excited about their accomplishment as was I. We have two huge trophies to put on display at GMS to remind them of how great they did and how all of their hard work paid off. For a middle school choir, they performed music in 3-part harmony, and did a very fine job of it. I would also like to say, we did this, while missing 5 of our outstanding singers due to their participation in the Wizard of Oz being held back here in Goochland.
We will be singing on Monday night, May 11 at our final concert of the year at 7:00p.m. in the GHS auditorium. Hope to see you there.
If you see any of the GMS chorus students, please be sure to congratulate them on a job well done!!!
Way to go Eagle musicians!!!
Congratulations also go out to the cast and crew of the “Wizard of Oz” which was performed this past weekend to appreciative audiences.
