Parent Teacher Conference February 16th 3:30 - 7:00 by Appointment

The faculty and staff of GMS would like to invite you to attend Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

It is our intent to conserve your time as well as that of our instructional staff.  Teachers will meet by appointments (15 minute sessions) which should be scheduled through Guidance. Contact Stacey Rainbolt (6th/7th Grade) or Amy Hartley (8th Grade) at 804 556 5320 to request an appointment.

All appointments will be finalized and teachers will be given a confirmed list by 10:00 a.m. on February 16th.  It is very important that we all adhere to this timetable, so that teachers are prepared, organized, and ready for each conference.

In order to accommodate everyone’s request it is imperative that we stick to our schedule.  Please be on time for your appointment and adhere to the allotted time.  We will observe a dinner break for all staff from 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; scheduled conferences will resume at 6:15 p.m.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me at 804 556 5320 or by email .  We look forward to seeing you on February 16th, however our instructional staff is available by appointment with prior notice throughout the year.

Monday Moments ~ Week 13 11/14 - 11/18

Week 13 11/14-11/18

Thought for the month…
“I hear and I forget.  I see and I remember.  I do and I understand.”

Mission of GMS “We Inspire Children to Aspire for Greatness”
The Vision:  “Building a Strong Community One Relationship at a Time”

We are getting used to our new schedule, while teachers and students are utilizing instructional time efficiently.  FOCUS block allows students time during the day to complete assignments, projects, take AR test, or receive extra help from a teacher.

This is National Bully Prevention Week (11/14-11/18).  We will begin our week with the Olweus Kick off on Monday November 14th.  Our GMS Bully Prevention Group has worked tirelessly with Ms. Rainbolt for today’s Assembly.

Our Winter Sports Season is well underway, with Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball and Cheerleading in season.  We wish our Eagles the best of luck in a successful season.  We are very thankful to our Coaching Staff, for affording our Student Athletes the opportunity to foster their talents.  I would encourage you to come out and support our students at their home and away games.  Athletic schedules are posted on the homepage for your convenience

Next week is a short week, we will be out of school from Wednesday November 23rd - Friday November 25th.

Make it a great week!

Monday Moments ~ Week 10 10/24 - 10/28

Week 10 ~ 10/24-10/28

Thought for the month…
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”

~William Butler Yeats

In an attempt to better communicate with Parents and the Community, I will post ”Monday Moments,” each week to keep you informed of the events and activities of Goochland Middle School.  I hope you find this and future post both informative and helpful as you plan your week.

Hard to believe we have closed out MP1.  I hope that your start to the 2011 - 2012 School Year has been a pleasant one.  We are preparing to close out the Marking Period, as we eagerly anticipate great things to come.  I hope that you will take full advantage of our first Parent Teacher Conference, scheduled for Wednesday October 26, 2011 from
12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m
. To make the best use of everyone’s time, we are asking that all parents requesting a conference, call prior to Wednesday afternoon to schedule an appointment.  Appointments can be made through the Guidance Department by calling 804 556 5320.

Report Cards will be distributed on Tuesday afternoon (10/25), and Wednesday (10/26) is a Student Holiday.  We will host a Harvest Dance on Friday October 28th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Students can purchase their wristbands on Thursday during all 4 lunches.

As we begin a new Marking Period, please take a few moments to reflect with your student.  As always we encourage our students to utilize their GMS Agenda as a means of communication.  Homework is vital to your student’s success in school.  Nightly review is a good way to build consistency and encourage stellar study habits.

Make it a great week!

Earthquake

As you know at approximately 1:50 this afternoon, as students set attentively in Block 4, we experienced an Earthquake.  Our students calmly exited the building with the assistance of faculty and staff.  After a few moments, the decision was made by the administration of both buildings to move students to the GHS stadium.  GMS students were directed to the athletic field where they remained with their assigned Block 4 teacher.  Students were not allowed back into the building prior to dismissal.  Our Custodial Staff secured the building, and students can collect their personal items during homeroom tomorrow morning.

Students should report to homeroom in the morning, as scheduled.  We will make an announcement with further instructions during that time.

Welcome Back

We will hold our traditional 6th Grade Orientation on August 17th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Goochland Middle School.  There will be homeroom listings posted as you enter the school.  This year homeroom teachers will hold the Orientations in individual classrooms.  Parents are welcomed to attend these sessions, and encouraged to take part.  Business Night for all new and returning students will be held on August 17th from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.  We welcome you to tour the school, pick up schedules, and pay fees at this same time.  We hope to mail schedules on or before Monday August 15th, however they will be available on Business Night, as well as the first day of School.

Our school theme this year is “Ab S. O. L. ute Success!” We need you, as parents, to play an active part in moving us into EXCELLENCE.
