School resumes on Friday

Today, February 12, 2010, Goochland County Schools will open two hours late. All 12-month employees should report on time.

Also, buses will be operating on Alternate Routes. In the last few days, members of our transportation staff have attempted to contact the parents of students whose bus stops need to be moved due to road conditions.

A link to information about alternate routes is found below. If you have questions on alternate routes, please call 556-5361.

The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School bus will be on its normal schedule and regular stops.

Make-up days are approved as a part of our school calendar each year. The designated make-up days are found on the 2009-2010 School Calendar. As of February 11, make-up days include only March 29 (formerly a student holiday), June 4, June 7, June 8, June 9 and June 10.

We will not make a decision on the specifics of extended days until students and teachers are back in school. We need to know from teachers how extended days will support instruction, when they should be scheduled, and how long they should be. Teachers will not be able to make those recommendations until they have had students back in class for a while. We've already planned revisions in the marking periods and in the SOL test schedule, so teachers have to see where students are based on the "new" school year. Quality instructional time is more important than "seat" time and we want to make sure that any additional time is useful time.

The last day of school is June 10, as indicated in the approved school calendar.
