Parent Volunteer Info
Parents who plan to volunteer in the classroom or attend/chaperone school-sponsored field trips must have a background check on file. These background checks do not need to be completed every year. The background checks are good for as long as the parent is an active GCPS volunteer.
Parents can stop by the GCPS Central Office on Thursday, August 21 or 28 and Thursday, September 4 or 11 from 8-10 AM to have a background check done without an appointment. Requests for other dates and times will be by appointment only. Parents can or call (804-556-5603) the GCPS Human Resources Specialist, Demetra Harris, to schedule a time.

Randolph Welcomes New Principal
Goochland County Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Gardner to the position of principal of Randolph Elementary School. Mr. Gardner, a Goochland resident since 2006, leaves a position as Associate Principal at Jackson Davis Elementary School in Henrico, VA and replaces Sandra Crowder who served as Randolph principal for the past two years.
“I am excited to embrace the work already being done by the Randolph family and help to further our journey toward excellence,” remarked Mr. Gardner. “I plan to focus on the development of character as much as a student’s academic success, growing confident self-learners that will contribute to our Goochland family and beyond.”
Gardner earned an undergraduate degree from Roanoke College in Business and Economics. He received a Masters in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University while working as a health care administrator for Bon Secours. Responding to the urge to teach, he changed his focus to education and obtained a Masters in Teaching from Mary Baldwin College. He then taught second and fourth grades with the Henrico County Public Schools. He obtained a Reading Specialist endorsement a few years later from the University of Virginia Curry School of Education and his Education Supervision degree through the Virginia Commonwealth University, at which time he began pursuing school leadership in Henrico.
“We are so excited about this appointment.” said Goochland superintendent Dr. James Lane. “Mr. Gardner is an active member of our instructional council as a parent volunteer, his children attend our schools, and he’s deeply committed to the Goochland community. He brings a wealth of instructional leadership and experience to our team and to the school.”
Mr. Gardner and his wife, Shannon, live in Maidens and have three children, Caden (7), Luca (6), and Nia (3). They are also Randolph Roadrunners!
