Updates from December

“Over the River”, the school’s winter play was performed by the second grade classes on December 14th.

This play was written by Kim Watts, music teacher at GES and BES.  It was directed by RES/GES music teacher, Amy Holzbach.

The RES Spelling Bee was held on December 16th.  Two students were selected to represent each grade level (excluding Kindergarten).  Congratulations to our finalists:

  • School Winner:  Morgan, 2nd grade
  • 2nd place:  Haley, 3rd grade
  • 3rd place:  Ethan, 4th grade

  • The Spelling Bee was judged by GCPS Testing Coordinator, Karren Streagle, RES ESOL teacher, Rebecca Raab, and RES Reading Specialist, Paula Curle.  The bee pronouncer was RES Special Education teacher, Kamesha Smith and it was coordinated by RES Library-Media Specialist, Susan Vaughan and the RES Language Arts Committee.

The top three RES Spelling Bee finalists will participate in the Goochland County Spelling Bee on January 19th in the GHS auditorium at 6:30 PM.  Be sure to come out and support them as they compete against students from GES, BES, and GMS!

December’s events ended with the 4th and 5th grade Chorus singing at the Short Pump Town Center on December 17th.  They sang a medley of classic hits and holiday tunes to a large crowd.  Congratulations to the Chorus for a job well done!

Happy New Year!  Be sure to check back to the RES webpage for the latest events and information in 2010!

    NEW PTA/Winter Program Date

Our PTA board has made the request that we move our regularly scheduled PTA meeting and winter performance so that it does not conflict with the School Board meeting on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00.  This meeting of the school board will offer one of the best opportunities for our families to make public comment on the proposed budget cuts for the 2010-11 school year.  The board has taken the approach to encourage all members of the RES community to be engaged in the process and be advocates for the school system and their children, our clients.  Having an opposing meeting would create a mixed message, so Mr, Austin has agreed to move our meeting/performance to Monday, December 14th at 7:00.
