Our Schools

The Goochland County Public School System has a specific mission of focusing our efforts upon meeting the intellectual, personal, social, and career-preparation needs of all students. It’s this commitment to the future of each student that makes our schools successful.

The Goochland County school division is committed to excellence in education, equality of educational opportunity, and the recognition of each student’s individuality. Programs allow an individual approach to each student’s learning style and educational needs, providing learning opportunities that are consistent with personal development and potential.

Goochland’s 2300+ students attend three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, a specialty center, two governor’s schools, and an alternative school. The pupil/teacher ratios for grades K-5 are 17 to 1.

A full range of after-school academic and athletic activities is offered at the high school. Regular middle and elementary school extended-day programs are being expanded with an emphasis on mathematics, science, technology, and the arts, as well as major team sports.

Career and Technical preparation remains a primary component of the guiding mission of the Goochland County Public Schools: to meet the intellectual, vocational, social, and personal needs of all students. Goochland County has over 30 course offerings in grades 7-12. There are over 300 students enrolled in career and technical education classes.

All career and technical education course offerings in Goochland County Schools are designed in accordance with guidelines specified in the Guide to Career and Technical Program Planning and the Virginia Career and Technical Education Reporting System User’s Manual.
