Orientation Meeting

On Tuesday afternoon, November 29, 2011, the school board elect convened beginning at 4 o’clock for an orientation session with division superintendent Linda Underwood, Ed.D. The meeting was open to the public, and was held at the school board office first floor training room. Dr. Underwood spoke about school board policies, board duties and roles, and the organization of staff between departments, cost centers, and budget reporting categories. School board member elect Beth Hardy (district 4), who opened the meeting, was in attendance along with John Wright (district 5), John Lumpkins (district 3), Kevin Hazzard (district 2), and Mike Payne (district 1).

Also attending the session were many of Goochland Schools’ central office staff and administration, including Dr. Steven Geyer, director of elementary education and Title I, Ernie McLeod, director of finance and operations, Debra Beasley, director of student services and special education, Thomas DeWeerd, director of secondary education, technology, and career & technical education, Connie Foreman, gifted and enrichment specialist, Jennifer Bocrie, information technology specialist, Peter Martin, coordinator of technical services, Sean Campbell, technical services specialist, Diane Bennett, administrative services specialist and clerk of the board, Stacy Mott, coordinator of student services and special education, John Hendron, supervisor of instructional technology, Christina Owens, student services specialist, Peter Gretz, assistant superintendent, Lisa Borthwick-Landrum, supervisor of school nutrition, Sonny Turner, supervisor of maintenance, Francie Ball, principal of Goochland High School, Johnette H. Burdette, principal of Goochland Middle School, Christin Ashman, assistant principal of Goochland Middle School, and Betty Thurston, supervisor of transportation services.

Following the public session which ended at 6:15 PM, they subsequently met with school board attorney Andrea Erard, Esq. in a private meeting.

The standing board has its final public meeting on December 13, 2011 at 7 PM at the Goochland High School/Middle School auditorium studio B, chairman Ivan O. Mattox, Sr., presiding.
