On Monday, August 15, teachers officially came back to work to kick-off the 2011-12 school year with our annual convocation exercises at the GHS/GMS auditorium.
Teachers were recognized for their years of service to the division, with recognitions in 5-year increments. Both school board chairman Ivan O. Mattox, Sr. and school board member Raymond Miller attended the event.
Goochland's 2012 teacher of the year Mrs. Darlene Martin addressed the division employees, providing sage advice wrapped in several easy steps. Mrs. Martin is a kindergarten teacher at Randolph Elementary School in Crozier.
Also recognized at the event were winners of Goochland's G21 Project Faire. Representing the elementary division, Mr. Tom Case won for his Byrd Elementary Mural Project, which is on display at Byrd Elementary School.
Mrs. Crystal Neilson-Hall won for the secondary division, with her project focused on children's books and podcasts produced by students at Goochland High School.
G21's Byrd Elementary also innovated the G21 Projects during the past school year with a school-wide project, which also was honored with recognition.
We welcome all students back for what should prove to be a great school year on August 22nd!
