GMS student takes first place honors for middle school

Local school board members were treated to an impressive display of creativity and faced some tough decisions in selecting the 2010 winners in the Virginia School Boards Association Southside Regional Art Contest. Student art from the elementary, middle, and high school levels represented each school division in this competition, which was judged at the regional forum for area school board members.

Haley Herrmann was chosen as the first place regional winner! Her artwork, represented here—Hummingbird—will be exhibited in the VSBA offices in Charolottesville, in the Department of Education offices in Richmond, and at the VSBA convention in November, in Williamsburg. Congratulations, Haley! Ms. Hermann currently studies art with Mrs. Ann Rohrer at GMS.

The VSBA award was started in 1989 to promote the artistic talents of Virginia’s public school students.
