After considering the new VDOE mandate to offer a new class to incoming Freshmen as of the 2011-2012 SY, a committee from GHS of teachers Sarah Voyack, Joe Fowler, and Assistant Principal Matt Covington took a closer look at the current texts we have for the upcoming course. Seeing that the current texts are extremely outdated and do not do the students any justice in this new course, we began our search for an appropriate text. This group has narrowed down our review selection to one text that we feel will enable our students to be successful in the new course.
The text chosen for the Personal Finance and Economics is the following: Economic Education for Consumers, 4th edition, by Roger Leroy Miller & Alan D. This textbook is ideal because it not only does it incorporate the state learning standards for the personal finance portion of the course, but it also includes content on consumer economics, which is required in this course. This textbook contains more up-to-date and real world relevance that will benefit students in learning about how to manage their personal finances.
